Item Description
This photo captures the iconic Kathleen Hanna mid-performance with The Julie Ruin at Burger A-Go-Go on September 5, 2015, at The Observatory in Santa Ana, CA. Captured directly from the stage, standing just feet away, this frame documents an incredibly powerful and unfiltered live performance that had the entire crowd hanging on her every word. Dressed in her classic black polka dot dress and sporting her signature beehive hairstyle, she perfectly embodied the fierce energy and unapologetic spirit that have made her a definitive punk rock and feminist movement pioneer.
The festival showcase, part of Burger A-Go-Go 2015, served as a massive celebration of women in punk, indie, and alternative music. Kathleen’s set with The Julie Ruin stood out as an absolute highlight of the night, delivering a masterclass mix of raw emotion, defiant humor, and fearless activism that brought the audience completely into her world.
This specific photograph has also been featured at the Punk Rock Museum in Las Vegas, NV, a true testament to Kathleen’s enduring legacy and her monumental history fronting foundational riot grrrl acts like Bikini Kill and Le Tigre. This fine art print serves as an archival documentation of independent music history, capturing a split-second where radical performance meets timeless rebellion.
Setlist from Burger A-Go-Go 2015, at The Observatory:
V.G.I., Lookout, Party City, South Coast Plaza, Kids in NY, Radical or Pro-parental, Ha Ha Ha, Goodnight Goodbye, Oh Come On.
