This photo captures a rare, theatrical moment from The Nightmare Before Christmas: Live to Film concert series at the iconic Hollywood Bowl in 2016. On stage, Danny Elfman, Catherine O’Hara, and Paul Reubens reprise their original voice roles as Jack Skellington (and Barrel), Shock, and Lock, bringing Tim Burton’s classic characters directly to life alongside a full live orchestra.
This performance of “Kidnap the Sandy Claws” stood out as an absolute highlight of the night, marking a monumental live reunion of the original cast members in front of a sold-out, costumed audience. The Hollywood Bowl was completely transformed into a massive Halloween town, utilizing immersive scenic projections, eerie stage lighting, and themed jack-o’-lantern staging to set the perfect atmosphere.
Having documented music subcultures and energetic rock shows for years, capturing this performance offered an entirely different type of live electricity. Seeing Elfman step back into Jack Skellington’s world was incredible—coinciding perfectly with the deep musical legacy of his work both in cinema and as the frontman of Oingo Boingo. This print serves as a permanent visual archive of an unforgettable evening of nostalgia and pure orchestral magic.

Catherine O’Hara: Acclaimed Emmy-winning actress (Beetlejuice, Home Alone, Schitt’s Creek) who originally lent her versatile voice talents to both Sally and Shock.
